Wheat rust
Wheat rust diseases (yellow, leaf and stem rust) are the most important diseases of wheat and occur in almost all wheat growing countries. Wheat rusts, like other pathogens, can evolve into new strains that are more virulent and damaging to wheat crops.
Effective integrated management of wheat rust diseases requires close monitoring, international collaboration and strengthening of national capacities. FAO, within the context of the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI), runs a global programme on wheat rust diseases to provide policy and technical support to concerned countries.
