RegLitter Inception Meeting and GloLitter Asia Regional Task Force Workshop– Viet Nam, 4- 8 March 2024
The RegLitter Inception Meeting and the second GloLitter Asia Regional Task Force Workshop will be held back-to-back in Hanoi, Viet Nam, from 4-8 March 2024. These events are being hosted to support both the new “RegLitter”(i.e., Regional Litter) project funded by the Republic of Korea and the ongoing GloLitter (i.e., Global Litter) Partnerships project funded by the Government of Norway (NORAD). Both projects are jointly implemented between the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which aim to reduce sea-based marine plastic litter (SBMPL) from the maritime and fishing sectors. This week-long regional meeting will bring together project participating countries and a variety of stakeholders engaged in the SBMPL issue to share knowledge and build capacity around this topic at national and regional levels, as well as support project participating countries to further develop “twinning” proposals to collaboratively address the SBMPL issue regionally, based on the initial discussions initiated during the first Asia Regional Task Force Meeting held in Republic of Korea in September 2022. The RegLitter Inception Meeting will be held the first day of the events, on Monday, March 1, with representatives present from the host country (Viet Nam), project participating countries, donors (Republic of Korea and Government of Norway), IMO, FAO, as well as a variety of other Asia-regional SBMPL stakeholders present. The rest of the week will be focused on supporting the GloLitter Asia Regional Task Force Meeting, particularly through the development of twinning proposals between participating countries.
