FAO African Roots and Tubers Project contributed to the 2017 African Microfinance Week

09/10/2017 to 13/10/2017

One of the objectives of the FAO African Roots and Tubers Project is to increase access to inclusive financial instruments through capacity building and information exchange between financial service providers, producer groups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the roots and tubers value chains in selected sub-Saharan African countries. In this context, the project facilitated the participation of some of its key stakeholders in the African Microfinance Week, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 9-13 October 2017. During the conference, the project led a training on ‘’Risk assessment and investment strategies to deliver financial services to agricultural MSMEs’’, as well as a workshop to share findings and lessons learned on the constraints limiting the access to and the provision of financial services to the potato and cassava value chains in Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi.
