Bioenergy and Food Security (BEFS) Approach

2015

Sustainable energy, energy that is accessible, cleaner and more efficient, is key to achieving economic development and poverty reduction targets. However a clear understanding of the linkages between bioenergy production and use, sustainability and food security is needed in order to inform the development and implementation of bioenergy policies that contribute to both energy and food security in a sustainable manner. In order to support countries in the decision-making process related to sustainable bioenergy development, FAO has developed a support package that addresses two key questions regarding what to do and how to do it. This portal provides a detailed description of the Bio-energy and Food Security (BEFS) Approach, which comprises a set of publications, tools and guidance for Sustainable Bioenergy Assessment and Planning.
