WIEWS - World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

This indicator focuses on ex situ accessions regenerated and/or multiplied in the country of the reporting Stakeholder.

It is based on information reported in response to question 7.1 of the Reporting Format for Monitoring the Implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for PGRFA.

Question 7.1 requests the Stakeholder to provide for each crop, crop group, or preferably for each taxon conserved ex situ by the national genebank(s), the number of accessions regenerated and/or multiplied during the reporting period, the number of accessions requiring regeneration and the number of these for which a budget for regeneration was not available during the reporting period.

The term ‘regeneration’ typically refers to the planting of the stored germplasm accessions in the field in case the viability of the germplasm of a given accession has dropped below an agreed threshold, with the intention to replace the ‘old and less viable’ germplasm of that accession with  more viable germplasm material.

The term ‘multiplying’ typically refers to the planting of an accession in the field in case the amount of germplasm available for the distribution of samples of that accession has dropped below the minimum threshold level, with the intention to produce sufficient material for a given accession of good quality and quantity.

Information from question 7.1 fulfills indicators 22, 23 and 24 of the Second GPA.

The information is provided according to a table as described below.

Column descriptions:

Name of crop/crop group *

Name of taxon link:taxtab *

Total number of accessions in the national genebank(s) *

Number of accessions regenerated and/or multiplied *

Number of accessions in need of regeneration

Number of accessions in need of regeneration without a budget for regeneration

* Data used for this indicator.

The indicator is calculated as sum total of ex situ accessions regenerated and/or multiplied in the country during the reporting period.

Show Data

National Focal Point rating for the country/region selected is displayed.

Accessions regenerated, total is the sum total of ex situ accessions regenerated and/or multiplied in the selected country/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period.

Accessions regenerated, annual average is the average number per year of ex situ accessions regenerated and/or multiplied in the selected country/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period.

Visualize Data

A map showing reporting countries is displayed using pie charts based on the total number of accessions in the selected country/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period that have been regenerated, those in need of regeneration, those with no need for regeneration and those that are in need of regeneration for which there is no available budget.

A Select chart type at the top of the map allows the viewer to choose whether to view static pies or relative pies. Actual country data are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the country pie chart in the map.

A histogram of the total values is displayed by CGRFA regions. Actual values are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the histogram bar.
