WIEWS - World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

This indicator focuses on crop wild relatives conserved in situ and documented in a publicly available information system in the country of the reporting National Focal Point (NFP).

It is based on information reported in response to question 15.1 of the Reporting Format for Monitoring the Implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for PGRFA.

Question 15.2 requests the NFP to provide the number of crop wild relatives conserved in situ and documented in a publicly available information system, specifying the name and internet address of the information system.

As stated in the indicator, this question focuses squarely on CWR populations that have been documented in a publicly available information system. In case the requested information on a given population has not been included in an information system such a population should be discarded here.

The term ‘publicly available information system’ refers to any information management system that is being operated within the country or elsewhere that is publicly available and can be accessed freely. It should be noted that publications are not considered as an information system.

The number refers to those populations that at the end of the reporting period were conserved in situ, i.e. in their natural habitat (and not stored in a genebank) and whose information could be accessed through an on-line information system.

The information is provided according to a table as described below.

Column descriptions:

Number of crop wild relatives

The indicator is calculated as the sum total of crop wild relatives conserved in situ and documented in a publicly available information system in the country at the end of the reporting period.

Show Data

National Focal Point rating for the country/region selected is displayed.

CWR conserved in situ and documented, total is the sum total of crop wild relatives conserved in situ and documented in a publicly available information system in the selected country/region reported by the NFP at the end of the reporting period.

Visualize Data

A map showing reporting countries is displayed using a colour gradient based on the total number of crop wild relatives conserved in situ and documented in a publicly available information system in the selected country/region reported by the NFP at the end of the reporting period. Actual country data are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the country in the map.

A histogram of the total values is displayed by CGRFA regions. Actual values are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the histogram bar.
