In early 2014, outbreaks that had developed in the Central Region during the previous year continued in winter breeding areas along both sides of the Red Sea in Eritrea, Sudan and Yemen as well as in northern Somalia. During the summer, the situation remained calm until an outbreak developed in the interior of Sudan in October, on the Red Sea coast of Eritrea in November and on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia in December.
