Joint Workshop on Strengthening Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems and Early Actions in Southeast Asia

All countries in Southeast Asia (SEA) have committed to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 20152030, through implementation of the Action Plan 2018-2020 of the Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Frameworki and the Regional Road Map for Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacificic.

The agencies of the United Nations (UN) as well as regional organizations and International Finance Institutions (IFIs) have been supporting disaster risk reduction (DRR) in SEA for many years. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Strategic Plan 2020-2023vii and the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS)viii provide direction especially for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs). The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)’s Asia-Pacific Disaster Resilience Network (APDRN) mobilizes regional efforts in deepening and widening the coverage of multi-hazard early warning systems (MHEWS) in SEA. The UN, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), also supports the implementation of AADMER through the ASEAN-UN Joint Strategic Plan of Action on Disaster Management 2016-2020.
