Emergency Livelihood Response Programme 2015 - 2016
To protect and rehabilitate the livelihoods of the most vulnerable by sustainably restoring and maintaining livelihood production.

325 645 conflict-affected households (870 953 1 people).
- Provided 315 493 households with 68 195 crop kits (comprising 5 kg of cowpea seed, 5 kg of maize seed, 5 kg of sorghum seed, and at least one tool [maloda, rake, hoe and/or sickle]), 141 489 vegetable kits (comprising 20 g of amaranth, collard, eggplant, onion and tomato; 30 g of pumpkin and watermelon; 50 g of okra; and at least one tool [maloda, rake, hoe and/or sickle]) and 98 218 fishing kits (comprising two boxes of hooks, one monofilament and two spools of twine); and provided 10 152 households with crop seed through seed fairs in Central and Western Equatoria.
- Established and trained 45 farmers’ groups (1 125 people, of whom 945 were women) to set up 45 kitchen gardens that are now used as demonstration sites.
- Conducted capacity building trainings for beneficiaries including 21 food processing demonstrations for 1 002 mothers, cooking demonstration and nutrition trainings for 225 women, an energy-saving stove-making training for 76 mothers (with 140 stoves constructed in total) and a solar vegetable dyer training for 321 mothers.
- Trained 730 community-based animal health workers (CBAHWs) on the diagnosis, vaccination and treatment of relevant emerging diseases and the correct usage of provided medications; and procured and distributed 1 440 animal health kits comprising essential veterinary treatment and vaccination inputs to CBAHWs.
- Vaccinated and treated 1 653 099 animals against common diseases including foot and mouth disease through CBAHWs.
- Procured and distributed 14 refrigerators, 7 500 ice packs and 100 cold boxes to support future livestock vaccination campaigns and contributed to the maintenance and expansion of the national veterinary cold chain.
- Enabled recipient households of emergency livelihood kits to harvest an estimated 40 466 tonnes of crops, with about 0.64 tonnes harvested per household, meeting the food needs of a household of eight people for about 6.6 months.
- Reduced livestock mortality in areas where vaccinations were administered and treatment was conducted by 76 percent.
- Strengthened and maintained the capacity of CBAHWs to deliver animal health services and improved the efficiency and effectiveness of animal health services and extension support in remote areas throughout the country.
- Increased households’ understanding of and access to nutritious food sources through the promotion of nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
- Increased vulnerable households’ access to emergency livelihood inputs, enhancing food security and resilience through maintained food production.
