Objective:
(i) Assess the status of agricultural livelihood sub-sectors, including crop, livestock, fishery and aquaculture, and forestry resources of the rural communities.
(ii) Highlight the necessary value chains of agricultural products, constraints, needs and propose relevant interventions.

Activities implemented:
- Collected and analysed qualitative and quantitative primary data through focus group discussions and key informant interviews with MoAWR departments and its extensions, Kurdistan Region Statistics Office, agricultural research centres, universities, traders, wholesalers, private companies and farmers.
- Collected and analyzed qualitative and quantitative secondary data on the agriculture sector through comprehensive literature reviews, examining studies produced by Non-governmental Organizations, international organizations and humanitarian agencies.
- Validated data through triangulation of data from different sources.
- Identified priority requirements in the agriculture sector and market value chain.
- Described methods to make agriculture more productive and sustainable.
- Recommended approaches to develop inclusive value chains of key agricultural commodities.
- Determined capacity-building needs for improved productivity.
- Designed plans and strategies to develop sustainable management of natural resources, increase agricultural productivity and enhance value chains.
Impact:
- Produced study entitled “In-depth study for agriculture sector in Kurdistan Region-Iraq” that assessed the status of sub-sectors, including crop, livestock, fishery and aquaculture, and forestry resources of rural communities.
- Produced study entitled, “Kurdistan report on value chain issues within agriculture” that highlighted the necessary value chains of agricultural products.
- Produced study entitled “Irrigation and water resources” that examined the condition of existing irrigation practices.
