Objective:

To contribute to the protection and recovery of livestock production in the islands of Fogo, Maio, S. Vicente and Santo Antão, through the provision of animal.

Key partners:

Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA).

Beneficiaries reached:

7 335 households.

Activities implemented:
  • Provided 250 tonnes of animal feed, benefitting a total of 6 601 ruminants (756 cows, 5 714 goats and 131 sheep) owned by 7 335 beneficiary households.
  • Distributed veterinary inputs (vitamins, antibiotics, anti-parasitic and equipment) for the treatment of 1 036 cows and 10 359 small ruminants, benefitting 1 770 households.
  • Trained 7 335 households in control and response to animal diseases, including prevention, risk and disaster management.
Impact:
  • Protected pastoralists’ livelihoods by contributing to the recovery of livestock production and increasing the health status of the animals.
  • Strengthened households’ capacities in livestock management practises and animal disease responses.
  • Strengthened capacities of regional delegations of the MAA’s monitoring teams,
