Objective:

To contribute to the stabilization of returnees in their hometowns through assistance in the provision of garden seeds and tools, and to make food available and generate additional income to reduce backward movements to the camps.

Key partners:

BCI, ATURAD, FPT, ACAS, Al Chadja and ONDR/North-East.

Beneficiaries reached:

The project activities benefited 14 000 households in the Sila region and 4 500 households in the Ouadai region (approximately 84 000 beneficiaries).

Activities implemented:
  • The project distributed 1 390 kg of vegetable seeds, 7 000 daba hoes and 7 000 watering cans to 14 000 beneficiary households.
  • A number of 2 367 group leaders were trained, who in turn trained 11 633 beneficiaries in gardening bed confection making, plant maintenance and protection, and vegetable harvesting, processing and storage.
Impact:
  • 14 000 beneficiary households produced 7 662.7 tonnes of vegetables. At the household level, 547.3 kg of vegetables were produced on an average plot of 300 m2.
  • Additional income was generated from vegetable sales of about USD 593 per household versus an expected USD 190.
