Objective:

To immediately restore summer crop production capacity, food security and income generation for vulnerable small-scale farmers in non-irrigated areas of the most cyclone-affected townships in the Ayeyarwadi Delta.

Key partners:

Myanmar Agricultural Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Welthungerhilf, Groupe de Recherches er d’Echanges Technologiques, Lokha Alinn, Triangle, Save the Children, Mercy Corps, Agence Cooperation Technique Et Developpement, Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, EverGreen Group and Mingalar Myanmar.

Beneficiaries reached:

6 489 households.

Activities implemented:
  •  Distributed 44.8 tonnes of pulse seed, 37.5 tonnes of paddy seed and 4 tonnes of pigeon pea  seed to a total of 2 668 farming households.
  •  Distributed 420 tonnes of organic fertilizer and 20 tonnes of urea fertilizer to a total of 3 693  households.
  •  Supported the construction of 74 300 rat traps for distribution to 320 villages as part of rodent  control initiative.
Impact:
  •  Farming households were able to produce USD 705 600 worth of pulse crops on 1 120 ha of land for  additional income during the dry season.
  •  Improved rodent situation for at least 2 121 beneficiaries who received traps through the project.
