Objective:
Contribute to improve the food security of the most affected populations by the desert locust.
Key partners:
The Unité nationale de lutte contre le criquet pèlerin (UNLCP), the Commission de lutte contre le criquet pèlerin dans la Région occidentale (CLCPRO) and the Ministry of Rural Development.
Activities implemented:
- Distribution of agricultural inputs such as seeds, veterinary drugs and pesticides.
- Procurement of three off road vehicles, two radios and one laptop computer.
- Collecting of empty pesticides packaging.
- Coverage of travel expenses of three agents to go to Dakar for training.
- Assistance related to operating costs of aerial surveillance operations for controlling the desert locust.
Impact:
- National capacities for survey work strengthened.
- Procedures for collecting and analyzing data as well as information sharing improved.
- Desert locust populations reduced.
- Staff capacities to control desert locust strengthened.
- Rice cropping area and income generating activities implemented.
- Animals vaccinated, parasitic diseases reduced, milk production increased and overall animal health improved.
- Overall food insecurity decreased.
