Objective:

To assist vulnerable households affected by floods in the prompt resumption of their agriculture-based livelihoods through distribution of agricultural inputs.

Key partners:

Food Security Cluster Members, National Directorate of Agrarian Services, Provincial Directorate of Agriculture (Gaza), District Services for Economic Activities (Xai Xai, Chibuto, Guijá and Chókwè), and three NGOs – Kulima, ISAAC and Samaritan’s Purse.

Beneficiaries reached:

19 293 flood-affected families.

Activities implemented:
  • Provided 19 293 families with vegetable and crop seed kits.
  • Supplied 6 000 of beneficiary households also received hoes and machetes.
  • Over 62 percent of the kits were provided to women or women-headed households.
Impact:
  • Enabled beneficiary households to promptly resume food production.
  • Reduced dependency on aid in the aftermath of the floods and households received a much-needed source of income.
  • Reduced household vulnerability, thus preventing flood-affected families from sliding into deeper poverty.
