Objective:

To contribute to restore food security and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable households through the distribution of agricultural inputs, the implementation of income-generating activities and support to transhumance in the Central African Republic.

Key partners:

The decentralized technical services of the Ministry of Rural Development, Non-governmental Organizations and local associations and authorities.

Beneficiaries reached:

2 800 vulnerable households.

Activities implemented:
  • Identified, sensitized and selected beneficiary households.
  • Procured and distributed crop kits for a total of 37.2 tonnes of crop seeds (cowpea, haricot bean, maize, sesame and rice) and 3 600 hoes to 1 200 beneficiary households.
  • Provided beneficiaries with training on health risks linked to seed consumption, processing, preservation and storage techniques, crop and vegetable production, income generating activities, animal health, social cohesion and good agricultural practices through the establishment of farmer field schools.
  • Procured and distributed vegetable kits for a total of 12 kg of amaranth seeds, 12 kg of tomato seeds, 12 kg of okra seeds, 12 kg of spinach seeds and 12 of onion seeds, and 1 200 hoes, 1 200 rakes, 1 200 shovels and 1 200 watering cans to 1 200 beneficiary households.
  • Sensitized 110 butchers on good animal health practices.
  • Contributed to the procurement of the 1.5 million doses of vaccine against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, 600 000 doses of vaccine against pest of small ruminants, 70 coolers, 30 refrigerators, 200 automatic syringes and 200 boxes of needles.
  • Vaccinated and dewormed 359 234 heads of cattle and 77 639 small ruminants.
  • Rehabilitated three pharmacies to ensure the provision of veterinary supply to herders.
Impact:
  • Cultivated 600 ha of land and produced 600 tonnes of cowpea, haricot bean, maize, sesame and rice.
  • Cultivated 120 ha of land and produced 360 tonnes of vegetables.
  • Reinforced the technical and operational capacities of beneficiaries and of professionals working in the livestock sector.
  • Increased food stocks and improved the livelihoods of beneficiaries through the sale of production surplus.
