Sustainable livelihoods: new market opportunities for cassava

In Ghana, processing of cassava was limited to traditional food products such as gari, kokonte, agbelima and tapioca, and minimal amounts of low-grade starch and starch biscuits. Cassava farmers can improve their livelihoods by expanding the range of market opportunities available for cassava-based products and promoting the use of cassava for industrial products. These products include: sugar syrups for food use, production of high-quality cassava flour for use in some bakery products, plywood glue, industrial alcohol for the chemical industry, and paperboard adhesive for the cardboard packaging industry. This practice analysis the cost-benefits of sugar syrup production.
