Description:
The Liberia Agricultural Journalists Network (LAJN) is the national network of print, broadcast and online journalists and communicators with keen interest to report on agricultural and rural development issues across Liberia. LAJN was established June 15, 2015. Our network members are not only interested to report the successes and challenges of smallholder farmers across the country but also use their platforms to educate farmers on agriculture best practices to enhance farmers’ productivity. This is the network way to complementing agriculture extension services program in Liberia. LAJN currently has three core program activities designed to enhance the capacity of members in making the network more responsive to the information needs of smallholder farmers. Our strategic program activities focus include: Capacity Building and Training LAJN considers training and capacity building for its members as core activities for the network over the next three years (2019-2021). The network is face serious capacity challenge due to the limited number of journalists that have acquired specialized training in agricultural journalism apart from the conventional journalism practice. We anticipate to concentrate more attention to training for members through partnership with other guilds. Annual Agricultural Journalism Award As a means of promoting excellence in agricultural journalism, we host annual award program to recognize outstanding journalists with the best agricultural news reports. Fellowship Program LAJN collaborate with potential donor and other IFAJ guilds to undertake various reporting project in the agricultural sector of Liberia. The program is designed to hone the reportorial skills of new breed of agricultural and rural development journalists transitioning from the conventional media.
