Southeast Asia Regional Initiatives for Community Empowerment SEARICE

Type of Organization: Non-governmental organization
Areas of work: Agroecology
Region: Asia and the Pacific
Country: Philippines
Description:
The main focus of SEARICE’s work is on the conservation of agricultural biodiversity and promotion of sustainable food systems. Social inclusion (working with indigenous peoples & gender equity), food security, farmers’ rights, and community resiliency (against various crises, including climate crisis), are among the diverse concerns that SEARICE pays special attention to in its program, project design and implementation. SEARICE programs aim to strengthen farmers’ capacities and their food systems, and have done so through the Farmer Field Schools (FFS). Rather than simply transferring technology, or training farmers to produce food sustainably, SEARICE programs are centered around people’s capacities to organize, learn and act to continuously innovate and engage in corresponding policy changes.
