The CCLAC Region - Regional Coordinator Chile

With more than 600 million inhabitants, the Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the areas on the planet with greater diversity not only ethnic, but also social, cultural and demographic.

Economies are largely based on the extraction of natural resources, with mostly petroleum and mining, manufacturing and agricultural industries present in the region.

Over the last decade, the region has experienced deep economic and social transformation, which has lifted millions out of poverty and swelled the ranks of the middle class. Strong economic growth - driven by both domestic reforms and a favorable global economic environment - has been responsible for this progress.

The main official languages in the region are Spanish, English and Portuguese. However, countries are also French and Dutch-speaking.

Of the 46 countries that make up this region, 33 belong to CCLAC and represent 20% of all participating Codex countries.
