Région du Comité FAO/OMS de coordination pour l'Amérique latine et les Caraïbes (CCLAC) - Coordonnateur régional: Chili

Comptant plus de 600 millions d'habitants, la région Amérique latine et Caraïbes est l'une de celles qui présentent la plus grande diversité de la planète, non seulement sur le plan ethnique mais aussi du point de vue social, culturel et démographique.

L'économie des pays de la région repose en grande partie sur l'exploitation de ressources naturelles, principalement le pétrole et les mines, le secteur manufacturier et l'agriculture.

Au cours de la dernière décennie, la région a connu une transformation économique et sociale profonde, qui a tiré des millions de personnes de la pauvreté et s'est traduit par un essor de la classe moyenne. Ces progrès sont dus à une forte croissance économique, alimentée à la fois à des réformes nationales et à un environnement économique mondial favorable.

Les principales langues officielles des pays de la région sont l'espagnol, l'anglais et le portugais. Certains pays sont toutefois aussi francophones ou néerlandophones.

Parmi les 46 pays de la région, 33 sont membres du Comité. Ils représentent 20 pour cent de tous les pays membres du Codex.

An ‘original’ risk analysis workshop takes place in the Dominican Republic

Codex Trust Fund 2 project launched in Honduras

Honduran officials of the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Ministry of Health, the Agency for Health Regulation and the Honduran Organization of Normalization joined the national Codex Contact Point and others in Tegucigalpa to announce the start of a Codex Trust Fund 2 project. Behind the scenes at CAC

The 41st session of the Commission finished last week and the CCLAC region led by their coordinator Diego Varela from Chile put together a videoblog which provides a fascinating behind the scenes look at the week from their perspective. Asunción workshop shows how to be fluent in Codex

Codex Contaminants Committee meeting in Rio

Contaminants are substances that have not been intentionally added to food. They can occur naturally and enter the food while a crop is growing. Codex Regional Meeting begins in Chile

These meetings provide an incredibly important opportunity for dynamic discussion on major and emerging food safety and quality issues facing the region.
