Mission of Permanent Representatives to FAO studies agricultural and rural development in Georgia

Ambassadors and the Permanent Representatives to FAO - representatives from the Regional Groups of Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Caribbean, Near East and North America - paid a four-day official visit to Georgia to gain a first-hand information of the opportunities and challenges Georgia’s agriculture is facing and to create the direct understanding of the activities FAO has been undertaking to support the member country in its developmental and humanitarian efforts.

The official delegation met with Mr Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. “I want to say special thanks to FAO, which is our leading partner in the sector and we implement crucial projects with the support of this organization. I believe that our excellent partnership with FAO will continue in the future,” Davitashvili said .

The visit programme also included meetings with the Deputy Minister of Foreign affairs as well as with the UN Resident Coordinator, representatives of the UN Country Team, and the strategic partners of FAO in Georgia: Austrian Development Cooperation, EU, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and USAID. In the course of the visit, the delegates had a field trip in Kakheti to be acquainted with some key results of the FAO projects implementation on the ground.
