Latest advancements on PyAEZ, an innovative free and open-source application for land evaluation. Making Agro-ecological Zoning analysis accessible through the GAEZ Data Portal

Year published: 19/09/2023

The Agro-Ecological Zoning (AEZ) methodology, developed by FAO and IIASA, is a well-established modeling system used for sustainable land-use planning, agricultural investments, and assessing climate change impacts on agriculture.

PyAEZ is and open-source Python package developed by FAO with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and in collaboration with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), which offers AEZ calculations for user to implement for their own AEZ analyses.

The latest version, PyAEZ v2.1, is now available on GitHub and through the Global Agro-Ecological Zoning Data Portal and it was presented during a virtual event on 12 July 2023 with the objective to support land use planning and enhance the utilization of land resources at different scales.
