MAFAP Launches its technical activities in Malawi in partnership with CARD

02 Dec 2013
MAFAP has launched its technical activities in Malawi, in partnership with the Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD).

A capacity development workshop on price incentives to production was organized with the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) - Bunda College. The food and agriculture policies monitoring system was introduced to participants from various institutions relevant to agricultural policy, and they received training on the MAFAP methodology.

The MAFAP policy monitoring system was also officially presented to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MoAFS) and more especially to the Planning Department. The meeting was opened by Ms. Rolle, the FAO Representative in Malawi, and M. Namaona, director of the Planning Department. The possibility for a collaboration between MAFAP and the Ministry is currently being explored. MAFAP, a sustainable and country-based monitoring system for better policies, could be used to measure and monitor the effects of the Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp) on producer’s incomes.
