Urgent action on climate change needed to safeguard mountains, says new Mountain Partnership Ambassador, Ludovico Einaudi

“Today, mountains and their glaciers are undergoing irreversible transformations resulting from climatic upheavals linked to human action. These are transformations that affect us: the water and energy that we use daily and so many of the foods we eat come from mountains,” says composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi, new Goodwill Ambassador of the Mountain Partnership.

وقد اختير عنوان "الثقافات الجبلية: احتفال بالتنوع وترسيخ للهوية" للاحتفال باليوم العالمي للجبال هذا العام. 

حددت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة يوم 11 ديسمبر/كانون الأول "اليوم العالمي للجبال". ومنذ 2003، يُحتفل بهذا اليوم كل عام للتوعية حيال أهمية الجبال في الحياة، وتسليط الضوء على فرص ومعوقات التنمية الجبلية، فضلاً عن تشكيل تحالفات من شأنها أن تأتي بتغييرات إيجابية تصب في صالح شعوب الجبال والبيئات المحيطة بالجبال حول العالم.

Mountaineering Ireland presents IMD award

Mountaineering Ireland (The National Governing Organisation for Mountaineering in Ireland) presents the 'Mountaineering Ireland-Lynam Award' each year to during International Mountain Day. For IMD 2019, they presented the prize - a silver medal - to Sir Chris Bonington, who then gave a lecture to an audience of 500 people.
