Forte di Bard in Italy celebrates IMD

Forte di Bard will celebrate International Mountain Day 2021 on Saturday, 11 December with a series of events. A conference on glaciers of Italy’s Aosta Valley will open the day’s programming, followed by a mountain book presentation and a documentary screening.

Celebration by Hilldaari in five hill cities of India

The Hilldaari project, supported by Nestle' India with implementation partner Stree Mukti Sanghatana and technical partner Recity, is celebrating International Mountain Day on 11 December across five Indian mountain cities: Dalhousie, Mahabaleshwar, Mussoorie, Munnar and Nainital. The week-long celebration on 6-10 December will culminate in a clean-up across all five Hilldaari locations. Plastic waste in mountains

On the occasion of International Mountain Day, this dialogue provides an opportunity to put mountains in the spotlight of global efforts to address plastic pollution. This event on 10 December is part of the Geneva Environment Network's Geneva Beat Plastic Pollution Dialogues, which aim to facilitate further engagement and discussion among stakeholders in Geneva and beyond, to address the plastic crisis and support coordinated approaches that can lead to more efficient decision making.

Photographer Davie Masanja's mountain photo exhibition

The Mazi Residency, situated in Choma village, offers a chance for artists to explore the scenic views of Tanzania's Uluguru mountains, forests and rich culture of its community. Photographer Davie Masanja was selected for Manzi's inaugural residency. On 7 December, he is hosting exhibition called "gate" (pronounced "gah-tey") to celebrate International Mountain Day.

Celebrating the Jewels of Borneo

The Jewels of Borneo is a two-day programme held in conjunction with the International Mountain Day. This virtual event on 10-11 December adopts the theme "Sustainable mountain tourism" to showcase Mount Kinabalu (4 095 m) located in Kinabalu Park, Malaysia's first World Heritage Site. Policy-makers, representatives from the industry, and academia will share best sustainable mountain tourism practices as well as highlight local communities' involvement in tourism. This event will also showcase neighbouring mountains located in Thailand and Indonesia.

11th Pakistan Mountain Festival

Devcom Pakistan's annual flagship event Pakistan Mountain Festival will begin on 1 December with a live painting competition. More than 50 students will participate. The Margalla Hills Trail-3 cleanup will follow on 5 December, coupled with a briefing by the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board. The third Pakistan Mountain Youth Parliament is scheduled for 9 December. A conference on Pakistan's mountains will be held on 11 December.

Celebrating mountains in the Andes

CONDESAN, the Humboldt Institute and United Nations Environment Programme will celebrate the mountains this year with the event "Bridges in the Andes: Transiting towards sustainability" on 8-10 December. The event includes a virtual conference on transitioning towards sustainability in scenarios of environmental change in the Andes and the first national meeting of experiences on the integral management of páramos in Colombia.
