Course on "Monitoring the right to adequate food"
Between August and October of 2020, a course on “Monitoring the right to adequate food” took place at the capacity building FAO platform “Núcleo de Capacitación en Políticas Públicas”. The course was developed by LEGN together with the Hunger- Free Latin America and the Caribbean Initiative 2025 (IALCSH) Support Project of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, with the support of the Spanish Cooperation.
The course was addressed to academics who are part of the Observatory of the Right to Food of Latin America and the Caribbean. Matilde Ambort, academic from the National University of Cordoba, acted as tutor. The course addressed the process of monitoring rights on the basis of indicators, focusing on the indicators developed for monitoring the right to food by the Organization of American States (OAS) Working Group for the analysis of national reports under the Protocol of San Salvador. It also addressed the relationship between these indicators and Sustainable Development Goal number 2 “Zero Hunger”.
The course was developed in collaboration with Laura Elisa Pérez, researcher at the University Program on Human Rights at the Autonomous National University of Mexico and President of the above mentioned OAS working group and Laura Pautassi, Principal Investigator of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research from Argentina (CONICET) and the University of Buenos Aires Law School (Argentina). Both are members of the Observatory on the Right to Food.
The course ended with a seminar where they both participated, as well as Soledad García Muñoz, Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
