The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Chairperson of the Committee on World Food Security have the honour to extend an invitation to attend the Fortieth Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) which will be held at FAO Headquarters in Rome from 7 to 11 October 2013.
This Session is open to members of the Committee, participants and observers, and will be conducted in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
Since 1974 the CFS has served as an intergovernmental forum in the United Nations system to review and follow-up policies concerning world food security. Over the last four years the CFS has taken up the challenge of reform so that it can play its role as the foremost inclusive international and intergovernmental platform in the area of food security and nutrition and has received endorsements at the highest political level.
In accordance with the principles of the reform process, the provisional agenda of the forthcoming session has been developed through a multi-stakeholder consultation process including representatives of Governments, UN agencies and other UN bodies, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), international agricultural research institutions, international and regional financial institutions, private sector associations, as well as philanthropic foundations.
Delegations are encouraged to keep interventions as concise as possible to maximize effective use of time and to encourage interactive debate among members and other stakeholders.
Representatives designated to attend the Fortieth Session of the CFS should register online through the password-protected FAO Permanent Representatives Website (PRWS) at http://permreps.fao.org/ by 16 September 2013. Instructions for online registration can be downloaded from the PRWS. Please note that online registration requires the uploading of a recent passport-size digital photograph.
