A new phase for the Africa Solidarity Trust Fund, a Council Side Event

06/12/2018

On Friday, 7 December during the 160th session of the Council, a side event on the Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF) will be held in the Sheikh Zayed Centre from 12.30 to 14.00. The event will highlight the positive impact that the first phase of the ASTF has had in supporting African countries with their critical national and regional initiatives on food and agriculture. Five years after its implementation, this un-earmarked pooled funding mechanism has shown great results through 18 projects implemented in 41 sub-Saharan countries. Now entering its second phase, the ASTF would like to expand its work both in volume and in scale. The event will encourage member countries, especially from Africa, as well as other resource partners, or “friends of Africa”, to join as supporters of the Fund.

Launched in 2013, the ASTF pools resources from African countries to assist fellow African countries to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, eliminate rural poverty and manage natural resources in a sustainable manner. The ASTF pairs effective development solutions with the challenges faced by African agriculture and food systems.

Please join the event live at FAO Headquarters or online at this webcast.
