and Cooperation with the NBI Partners
Stephen Ngigi – the agricultural water use expert
– represented the project at the second steering committee
meeting of the NBI Efficient Water Use for Agricultural
Production (EWUAP) project. The meeting was held in Nairobi,
Kenya, on 18 – 19 January 2007 and was attended by
some 20 participants from all Nile countries.
both projects are active in the broad field of agriculture,
FAO Nile and EWUAP are coordinating closely to capture synergies.
While FAO Nile is making a thorough assessment of the linkage
between water and agriculture at Nile Basin scale, EWUAP
is focused on piloting best practices to increase water
productivity at field level. The two projects, therefore,
are complementary and will build on each other’s achievements
linkages have been initiated, in particular in the area
of training. Furthermore, a number of EWUAP steering committee
members have been invited to participate in development
exercise of scenarios of agricultural demand in the Nile
Basin for 2030.
