FAO delivers fisheries risk assessment training in Kenya
©FAO/Glenn QuelchA team of fisheries specialists from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) trained 15 Kenya Fisheries Service officers in fisheries risk assessment.
The training took place in the coastal location of Malindi, between 13 – 17 February, with support from the government of the Federal Republic of Germany under project GCP/GLO/1047/GER.
The training included a strong focus on the importance of reliable data and information, underlying theory and methodological aspects of fisheries risk assessment. Trainees undertook a range of practical, scenario-based exercises to enable them to relate the need for, and processes of risk assessment to their day-to-day work.
The training also included a visit to a Beach Management Unit (BMU) landing site, for the trainees to appreciate the risk-based challenges associated with the artisanal sector.
