Feed and fodder seed distribution in Herat

Jun 2019

The signs of the 2018 drought were evident across various provinces in Afghanistan. Communities who rely on their livestock bear the brunt of the suffering. In rural areas, livestock is a main asset and the protection of remaining animal assets is essential. FAO, with support from Denmark, is assisting 35 200 agro-pastoral families in Badghis, Daikundi, Ghor, Helmand, Herat and Kandahar provinces. Families in the six provinces will benefit from the provision of concentrated animal feed, fodder crop seed, deworming medicine and trainings on livestock husbandry best practices. FAO is committed to supporting drought-affected agro-pastoralists at their places of origin to prevent further migration in larger cities by protecting their livestock and reviving productive livestock activities.
