Establishing partnerships at the global, regional and country levels allows FAO to foster a more consistent and harmonized approach to decent work promotion in rural areas. FAO partners with member countries as well as non-state actors such as other UN agencies, civil society organizations, producer organizations, academic and research institutions as well as the private sector. This gives FAO an opportunity to harness synergies between key stakeholders during the implementation of programmes, projects and other activities.

For instance, FAO works closely with the International Labour Organization (ILO), a sister UN agency that offers unmatched expertise and knowledge about the world of work. FAO also provides support to rural youth employment and entrepreneurship within the United Nations Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD) and plays a leading role in the International Partnership for Cooperation on Child Labour in Agriculture. Furthermore, FAO is an active member of the Global Migration Group, an inter-agency group that seeks to address the opportunities and challenges associated with migratory flows of people.

At the country level, FAO places particular attention to enhancing policy dialogue between stakeholders in agriculture and social partners (such as labour unions and producer associations). It also works together with relevant line ministries to improve the enabling environment for decent rural employment promotion and to enhance coordination between national and international actors.
