Soil management

Soil management is an integral part of land management and may focus on differences in soil types and soil characteristics to define specific interventions that are aimed to enhance the soil quality for the land use selected. Specific soil management practices are needed to protect and conserve the soil resources. Specific interventions also exist to enhance the carbon content in soils in order to mitigate climate change.

Furthermore, some practices and treatments that involve Other Sustainable Soil Management Tools can benefit the soil.

"Soil management is sustainable if the supporting, provisioning, regulating, and cultural services provided by soil are maintained or enhanced without significantly impairing either the soil functions that enable those services or biodiversity. The balance between the supporting and provisioning services for plant production and the regulating services the soil provides for water quality and availability and for atmospheric greenhouse gas composition is a particular concern."
