In October 2002 singer Dionne Warwick, from the United States, was
appointed FAO Ambassador. With her unique vocal style and her own
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Ms Warwick is the recipient
of countless awards, having a illustrious career that spans close
to 40 years and includes no less than 55 hit singles. As a philanthropist
and community activist, she has generously supported many charities
and social agendas.
"I am given the opportunity to make a statement
about what needs to be done in the world to combat hunger and poverty,"
she said upon accepting her nomination as FAO Ambassador.
Since her appointment, Ms. Warwick has dedicated generous amounts
of time and energy to FAO's campaign against hunger and has given
several interviews to the international media, speaking extensiely
about her role as an FAO Ambassador and advocate.
In November and December 2002, Dionne Warwick gave visibility to
FAO during concerts organized at the Teatro Sistina and Teatro Argentina
in Rome.
