Title: Assistant Director-General
Maurizio Martina, a national of Italy, is Assistant Director-General, supporting the Director General in different external and internal strategic matters.
Graduated from the Agricultural Technical Institute, he holds a degree in Political Science. Between 2010 and 2013 he was a Councilor of Lombardia Region. In 2013 he served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and from 2014 to 2018 he was Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry policies of the Italian Republic. He also served as coordinator of Government’s activities for the 2015 Milan Universal Exposition.
He has joined FAO in January 2021, focusing on the G20 under the Italian presidency; the Pre-Food System Summit hosted by FAO; and the UN Food Systems Summit.
He currently assists on, and supports, high-level liaison on matters related to follow-up to G20 meetings and the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021.
He supports FAO’s partnerships and cooperation with the Host Government, the European Union, as well as the other organizations of the United Nations’ system, in coordination with the concerned Deputy Directors-General and members of the Core Leadership Team.
In consultation with the concerned Deputy Director-General, he assists FAO’s engagement with the donor community, including the Host Government, as well as the private sector, in mobilizing resources for the transformation of the agrifood systems in Europe and in other regions.
