Global Nutrition Report uses data to measure progress on nutrition

Good nutrition is one of the best investments political leaders can make in the next generation. Improved childhood nutrition not only fights infectious disease and slows the onset of non-communicable diseases, but also lays the foundation for a healthier, more productive workforce. There is now widespread recognition that sustainable economic growth and child growth are inextricably linked. However, data on malnutrition is lacking in many African countries, making it difficult for leaders to allocate budgets to fix the issue. The Global Nutrition Report, an initiative of a wide range of stakeholders from national governments, the UN, civil society and donors, is attempting to bring all of nutrition data together and make it widely available and easy to use. The goal is to help measure progress, strengthen accountability and reduce malnutrition faster. The report will be launched in November at the Second International Conference on Nutrition in Rome.
