Transforming Africa’s Agriculture for Shared Prosperity and Improved Livelihoods through Harnessing Opportunities for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development
The Director-General of FAO, José Graziano da Silva, has been invited to take part in the Debate at the Summit scheduled for 26th June 2014 on the African Year of Agriculture and Food Security.
The AU Joint Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development, Fisheries and Aquaculture (28 April-2 May 2014, Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia) adopted Resolutions focusing on seven commitments to realize Africa’s Accelerated Agricultural Growth and Transformation Goals to be achieved by 2025 – 3AGTGs 2015) including ending hunger in Africa. The Ministers recommended that these goals should constitute the key items to guide the Debate of the AU Assembly, in Malabo and a declaration be adopted in this regard during the summit.

The Year marks the 10th Anniversary of the adoption of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). It also coincides with the UN Year of Family Farming.
