14 December. Risk decreases in Mauritania but increases in Niger
The current risk level decreased in Mauritania as locust infestations declined due to control and no rainfall. However, the risk level increased in Niger as groups of hoppers and adults were discovered in the Tamesna.
15 October. Risk level increased to THREAT and CAUTION
The current risk level has increased to THREAT in Mauritania due to a local outbreak and CAUTION for southern Morocco and Western Sahara.
3 August. Risk level returns to CALM
After four months of an heightened risk level, the Desert Locust situation has become calm again in all countries. Nevertheless, regular surveys and monitoring should be maintained.
2 July. Risk level reduce for SW Asia
The current risk level has declined in SW Asia as the threat of swarms migrating from Yemen and northern Somalia diminished. Yet CAUTION remains for a few countries in the Central Region because of the potential for small adult groups to migrate to summer breeding areas in Sudan and Eritrea.
12 June. Caution level expands to SW Asia
The current risk level has increased to CAUTION for several countries because of swarms in N Somalia.
2 April. Caution level returns to the Central Region
The current risk level has increased to CAUTION in the Central Region because of the threat posed by the development of outbreaks in Yemen and northern Somalia.
3 March. Situation returns to Calm level
Due to poor rains this winter, locust populations declined to low levels that do not threaten crops.
1 January. Caution level continues in Mauritania and Western Sahara
There is a moderate to high risk that adults will move into northern Mauritania and Western Sahara and breed in areas that received unusually heavy rains in September.
