Swarms threaten crops in Yemen and an outbreak is developing in Mauritania.
17 September. Desert Locust situation potentially dangerous in Yemen
As hopper bands and swarms are forming in the interior where security is poor and control operations are limited, neighbouring countries should be on alert.
5 August. Locust situation returns to calm
The Desert Locust situation has calmed down and only small-scale breeding is expected during the summer; however, increased activity is likely in Yemen where the situation level remains as Caution.
3 July. Locust threat shifts to summer breeding areas
Increased vigilance is required in the Sahel of West Africa and Sudan as well as in Yemen where breeding will occur during the summer.
15 May. Potential Desert Locust threat extends to parts of the Near East
With hatching and hopper band formation in Israel, the threat of current Desert Locust infestations extends to Israel and Palestine.
3 May. Potential Desert Locust threat in the spring breeding areas
The threat declined in the northern Central Region but continues in the spring breeding areas in Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Northwest Africa.
12 March. Desert Locust threat expands in the Central Region
As groups and swarms reach the northern Red Sea, there is an increased threat to Israel and Jordan during March.
24 January. Desert Locust threat continues along Red Sea coast and declines in West Africa
The risk is concentrated in winter breeding areas on sides of the Red Sea where hopper bands and swarms are present.
