The role of digital agriculture in agroecology and food sovereignty

This presentation claims that innovations for family farmers must deliver improved livelihoods in rural areas. It argues that all innovation has to comply with the SDGs: more people working with more value and higher quality of life. Agroecology is an innovation based on peasant knowledge centered farming systems and innovation goes much beyond digital agriculture. The authors of the presentation believe that a regulatory framework should be required in order to prevent any privatization of data. The hope that has been often raised, which is that digitalization would lead to more sustainable agricultural systems, is not coming true when companies, who make profit from selling the means of production, take over the whole crop planning by gaining data sovereignty. Data privacy and data rights should be secured on a political level with International regulation framework, precautionary principles applied in all policy recommendation and effective governance mechanisms.
