6th West African Organic Conference: ‘’Feeding the World Without Poisoning’’ on 23-26 November 2021

The next West African Organic Conference (WAOC) will be held between 23-26 November 2021 at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Centre in Burkina Faso.

The West African Organic Conference (WAOC) is a biennial initiative of the West Africa Organic Network (WAfrONet) which serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and views on various issues of concern in ecological and organic agriculture.

With the support of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Commission, African Union Commission, and other critical national and international organisations, the West African Organic Conference aims at creating a unique opportunity and experience for people in diverse roles in the ecological and organic agriculture value chain, including agencies, organisations, and individuals, passionate about growth and development of the organic sector.

There will be four days of fruitful interactions between farmers/ producers, research, marketers, policy makers and others interested in ecological and organic agriculture sectors.

The objectives of the Summit are:      

  1. To showcase the potentials of organic and ecological agriculture in the transformation of national and regional economy, ecologies, and livelihoods through income growth, climate change adaptation, food sovereignty, and trade.
  2. Sharing knowledge, information, experiences, and skills among all stakeholders of organic and ecological sectors in West Africa.
  3. To present scientific evidence on the capability of organic agriculture in contributing to healthy living and transformation of the national and continental economy, enhancement of systems resilience, and mitigation of climate change, among others.
  4. To provide a platform for uptake of organic alternatives through south-south collaboration, especially, in the sharing of experiences.
  5. The Exhibition of organic produce and products to stimulate national, regional, and international trade, linking producers to markets.
  6. To showcase and publicize the benefits of organic and ecological agriculture for consideration of policymakers, organic stakeholders, and the general public.
  7. To create a platform for national and regional policymakers to interact on organic and ecological issues.
