Évaluation des transitions vers des systèmes agricoles et alimentaires durables : un outil pour l'évaluation des performances agroécologiques (TAPE)

Interest in agroecology continues to rise as stakeholders seek more sustainable agricultural and food systems. Yet, despite its growing prominence, the evidence for its contributions to sustainability has often been fragmented due to inconsistent methodologies, differing scales, and data gaps. To address this, representatives from 70 agroecology-related organizations worldwide collaborated to develop the Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation (TAPE).

TAPE offers a comprehensive framework to assess the multidimensional performance of agroecological systems, aligned with the 10 Elements of Agroecology and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its key functions include evaluating the level of agroecological transition, monitoring the impacts of sustainable development projects, and assessing how agroecology advances SDG objectives. The tool also promotes knowledge sharing among producers and supports the adoption of more sustainable production practices, providing valuable input for shaping public policies that foster agroecological transitions.

Preliminary pilot results demonstrate TAPE’s adaptability across diverse regions and agroecosystems. The framework's ability to assess multiple sustainability criteria, beyond conventional indicators, offers a pathway to build a global evidence base for agroecology. This work supports the broader transformation toward sustainable agricultural practices and resilient food systems.
