Webinar ''Agroecology across three continents - Showcasing good policy practices''

Governments are beginning to recognize the urgent need to change our food systems. The current health and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic increases the need for such a transformation. Currently, existing examples of governments worldwide focus on developing conducive and innovative policies to introduce agroecological and resilient principles.

In this session, three leading policymakers from three countries (India, Denmark, and Uganda) explained the excellent policy practices they support, enabling the long-term transformation of their countries' food and agricultural systems. The speakers, chaired by IFOAM - Organics International, explored the critical entry points and drivers of transformational policies, including the multi-faceted crisis, climate change, health, and environmental pressures.

The participants will hear from:

  • Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, a member of the Himachal Pradesh Government of India, about their initiative to turn the food systems of the entire state into a sustainable one;
  • Mr. Alex Lwakuba of the Ugandan Government about their brand-new policy on organic;
  • Paul Holmbeck, the Director of Holmbeck Eco-Consult on how their countries consumers became the most pro-organic ones in the world.

The event was part of the ''Oxford Real Farming'' Conference in 2021.
