The commune of Ndiob in Senegal

The commune of Ndiob is located in the department of Fatick, 10 km south of the region of Diourbel, in west-central Senegal.

The mission of the commune is to make Ndiob a green, resilient commune through a process of inclusive, endogenous development that respects the rights of vulnerable people. The commune has carried out a diagnostic for the elaboration of an agroecological development program in Ndiob. This diagnosis was conducted with 900 inhabitants of the 18 villages in 2017, 50% of whom were women. It resulted in a program in 3 axes:

- Promotion of healthy and sustainable agriculture: organization of training, support for the construction of useful infrastructure (storage warehouse, composter etc.) in 2 pilot villages with 100 producers on 100 ha.

- Sustainable management and governance of natural resources: Awareness-raising activities and training on the challenges of land governance were organized. Nearly 1,000 women have been trained in the use of forest products and 417 improved fireplaces for firewood have been built.

- Support for the intensification of livestock production: 107 ewes were distributed, 60 farmers were trained in livestock management and 20 poultry projects were financed.

This sheet is produced within the framework of the Avaclim project, which aims to create the necessary conditions for the deployment of agroecology in drylands. The international solidarity association CARI coordinates the Avaclim project while Environnement Développement Action pour la Protection Naturelle des Terroirs (ENDA Pronat) is in charge of its implementation in Senegal.
