Progress in Designing and Planning of a National Forest Inventory in Myanmar

Under the framework of the UN-REDD Programme in Myanmar,FAO has been supporting the Forest Department in developing a new National Forest Inventory (NFI) as an important component of its enhanced National Forest Monitoring System . FAO’s expertise globally and in the region in implementing NFIs helped the country to set up an NFI approach which is objective driven and user-oriented taking into account key information needs of relevant stakeholders as well as the increasing monitoring and reporting requirements on forests at international level. An effective field methodology was developed in 2018 which is the basis for the training and field testing carried out between February and April 2019. In this video training participants and experts share their views on the NFI in Myanmar and talk about the crucial role of the availability of robust forest information in ensuring sound forest policy planning and evaluation for sustainable forest use as well as responding to international monitoring needs in the context of Climate Change and REDD+.
