Biotechnology applications in a sustainable bioeconomy

  Tuesday 17 June
  14.00 - 15.30
  Red Room

This technical session aims to share good practices in integrating bioeconomy to scale biotechnology and key synergies between them such as bioinformatics to support biodiversity conservation, or industrial biotechnologies to valorize biological resources within agrifood systems. This session also discusses the current issues of sustainability assessments and barriers to adoption of biotechnologies. The discussions will share the experiences in development of policies and strategies to ensure the sustainable and coordinated application of biotechnologies in different sectors of the bioeconomy. The fair and equitable use of biological resources will be highlighted connecting policymakers, scientists, civil society, farmers and private sector. The session will provide information on how bioeconomy can support access to data, knowledge-based information that are necessary to support deployment of targeted innovations, and open markets for sustainable bioproducts.
