Private sector in development, uptake and scaling of biotech solutions

FAO's Strategy for Private Sector Engagement, 2021-2025, aims to strengthen strategic partnerships with businesses to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bring about transformative change. It recognizes the private sector's role in innovation, scaling up efforts, and mobilizing investments to support FAO's mandate. The strategy includes a new vision for private sector partnerships, principles for engagement, and key strategic areas. Within the above context, the session will focus on the role of private sector in development, uptake and scaling of biotech solutions. The session will highlight some selected cases from Sweden, Switzerland, Nigeria, USA and Canada. The discussions will focus on application of biotechnologies in livestock herd health management, plant breeding, high-quality and high yielding varieties of seeds and scaling efforts. The discussions will cover role of youth inclusion and building partnership along the agricultural Innovation Chain for development, uptake and scaling of biotechnology solutions.
