
Sayed Azam-Ali is an internationally recognized crop scientist with experience in agricultural development, science-based policies and communication. He lived and worked in Asia, Europe and Africa and has experience and partnerships in over 30 countries. He worked with international agencies, governments, the private sector and academia, led international research partnerships and established a global research centre. In the past 12 years, Azam-Ali has secured over USD 43 million in funding from governments, international donors and the private sector. As well as having over 200 scientific publications and two books, he is a regular commentator in the international media and a speaker and communicator of science to public and academic audiences.
In 2021, Azam-Ali received an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours List for services to underutilized crops and food security. He has previously served on the Steering Committee of the Global Forum for Agricultural Research (GFAR) and chaired the Association of International Research and Development Centres for Agriculture (AIRCA), amongst other international roles.
He has been a member of the HLPE-FSN Steering Committee since 2023.
He is a national of Pakistan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
