Cecilia Elizondo has been an Academic member of ECOSUR for 23 years, and the last 8 years in the Agroecology group. She graduated from the CIIEMAD / IPN Ph D program on Science in Landscape Heritage Conservation, holds an MSc on Natural Resources and Rural Development at ECOSUR, and a BSc on Environmental Sciences at the Catholic University of Salta in Argentina. She has over 35 years of experience in environmental management and public policy, including 12 years in the Government of Argentina and 22 years in academia and in the Mexican Government.
Elizondo has previously worked as SEMARNAT Chief of Cabinet accompanying Víctor Toledo, as well as FAO Coordinator of the Intersectoral Group on Health, Food, Environment and Competitiveness (GISAMAC).. She was vice-president of the Sociedad Científica Latinoamericana de Agroecología (SOCLA); and vice president of the Sociedad Mexicana de Agroecología (SOMEXA); she is a member of the Frente Parlamentario contra el Hambre, Mexico’s Chapter; and she has been selected as an expert for the second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem of the Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), lead author in chapter 3.
She has been a member of the HLPE-FSN Steering Committee since 2023.
She is a national of Mexico, and Argentina.
